How Exponential Changed Me: And what it can mean for you and your ministry today

Why was Exponential so beneficial for me the first time I went 2 years ago? Honestly, my reason probably isn’t going to be one that most would say, but it has transformed the way we do church, and the way we think about the church.

Were the speakers good? Yes, they were fantastic! Were the breakouts helpful? Incredibly! Was there anything you would change about the conference? Yes. I would make it happen in Boise, but not because I am lazy or cheap. Getting out of town was a whole lot of fun. Along with a very fresh perspective to the leading God had already placed on my heart for His Kingdom in the Treasure Valley, the biggest take away I received from Exponential was a deepened understanding of not doing this alone…Realizing that we aren’t meant to go about it alone! Did I know this beforehand? Of course. But busy-ness, laziness, Sunday responsibilities, you name it, lent itself to being fairly siloed and feeling as if on an island.

I went to Exponential with a group of other pastors from Boise who all had the same itch for discipling the people of the Treasure Valley and church planting. We had the desire to see this valley reached in a way that we knew none of us could do on our own. We wanted to see every person here professing the name of Jesus. But to do that, we were not only forced but at the same time compelled to fight for a way to do this where we would not be divided by our individual distinctiveness and differences, but in a way which drew more people to the table. This is really where the City Network started getting its legs. This is where it went beyond theory, ideas, and hopes.

When I got back from Exponential last time, I couldn’t help but think of all the other Pastors to whom I am connected. They had to go with me next time! I soon came to realize that because of the distance this would be nearly impossible. With no desire to give up, it became obvious to us that if we want to see the valley reached the way we all believe the Lord has commanded us—by making disciples—then we need to get every Bible-teaching, Jesus-believing church on board. Let’s take them all to Exponential by bringing Exponential to all of them!

I don’t care how amazing or how bad it is going for you right now. To be in a room with the co-laborers in the valley, to make real lasting connections, to have your passion lit on fire and to stop working on an island, you want to come to Exponential. Check your “my-way,” individualist view at the door and join in with new zeal to see what the Lord is doing in the Valley for the glory of His Son Jesus alone! Come alongside your brothers and sisters who through Christ alone will be exalting the name of Jesus as one choir!

“There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you  were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is  over all and through all and in all.”  -Ephesians 4:4-6

How could it be a bad thing to spend two days worshipping Jesus and drawing closer to seeing His Kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven alongside the people the Lord has placed to shepherd this valley? You won’t be disappointed when you get to spend these two days with the spiritual leaders in the valley!
